DONATE or LEAVE a LEGACY

If you get pleasure from bird ringing and birds, why not help ensure SAFRING's future by making a donation. Any amount, large or small, helps, and will be put to excellent use. We are tremendously grateful to our supporters, past and future; without this generosity and forethought we would struggle to continue our work.

How to Donate

There are many ways to give a donation to SAFRING. Please click on one of the options below and follow the easy steps. We look forward to your contribution and if you need any help please let us know.

Making a Direct Deposit

Funds from donations made to the SAFRING Donations account are made available to SAFRING immediately. These funds are used to pay for ring orders from our suppliers, salaries, and incidental costs.

Email your name to SAFRING once you have made your contribution (safring [at] adu.org.za), or to honour any other loved-ones milestones email the name of the person to SAFRING. Please copy Zephne Bernitz, who is the SAFRING representative trustee.

Leaving a legacy

If you have had a lifetime's pleasure from bird ringing, why not leave a legacy/bequest to the Trustees Safring Fund in your will? Your will helps to ensure that your intentions are honoured and can help further the causes about which you feel most deeply.

If you would like to remember SAFRING in your will, please contact SAFRING at + 27 (0) 21 650 2421 (or email safring@birdmap.africa) or Zephne Bernitz at +27 (0) 83 6322970 (or e-mail bernitz@iafrica.com). If you have already included SAFRING in your will , please let us know, so that we can acknowledge your generosity.

The KZN Ornithological Trust of which the SAFRING Fund forms the larger part, is registered as a non-profit organisation (NPO registration number: 177-331 NPO) and a registered Public Benefit Organisation (No. 930054528) and authorised to issue 18A tax certificates where applicable (donations in excess of R500.00).

Save Tax with a Section 18A Tax Certificate

SAFRING is a registered Public Benefit Organisation in terms of section 30 of the Income Tax Act 58 of 1962 and donations to the organisation are exempt from donations tax in terms of section 56(1)(h) of the Act.

A donation's certificate in terms of section 18A of the Income Tax Act can be issued by SAFRING for donations received in excess of R500.00 (Five Hundred Rand) for the exclusive use by SAFRING, the activities of which fall within Part II of the Ninth Schedule to the Income Tax Act.

Donations that are allowed where SAFRING can issue a donation's certificate are:

  • Donations need to be unencumbered (unconditional) to further the objectives of SAFRING.
  • Donations can be made to specific projects to promote SAFRING's conservation related projects.
  • There must be no contractual obligations that need to be fulfilled or deliverables to be met as a result of this donation.
  • SAFRING must be free to use its discretion as to how the donation will be utilised.

A section 18A tax certificate will be issued in February each year to coincide with the end of the tax year.

Should you wish to discuss this further or wish a donation to be used in a specific area of SAFRING's work, please contact SAFRING at + 27 (0) 21 650 2421 ( or email safring@au.org.za) or Zephne Bernitz at +27 (0) 83 6322970 (or email bernitz@iafrica.com)
